Governors
Parent Governor Vacancies
Orchard Fields Community School currently have two parent governor vacancies. A strong governing board is important in establishing the school’s vision and to hold leadership accountable. Governors work with the Headteacher and leadership team to develop strategic growth and promote standards of achievement.
The role of a governor is as follows:
- ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
At Orchard Fields Community School we are looking for applicants that reflect the wider community and multiculturalism represented by the children in our school. Those applying need to be committed, have the desire to ask questions and the willingness to learn. They need good interpersonal skills, a suitable level of literacy and be adequately numerate to understand basic data. Applicants will need to meet the skills gap identified by our current governing board. The parent governor role is there to provide thinking and questioning i.e. they contribute to the strategic discussions at governing body meetings but do not get involved in the day-to-day management of the school. Being a parent governor can be highly rewarding. It is an opportunity to volunteer and help children in your community but also gain valuable skills.
