Year 1 is full of new adventures, learning, and fun! We encourage curiosity and creativity and support every child on their journey to being an independent learner.

Our Vision & Values this year; we focus on growing together, being kind, and always trying our best. We value curiosity, respect, and teamwork, helping everyone feel confident and ready to learn.

What We’ll Be Learning;

Phonics: Daily lessons using the ELS phonics scheme to help every child become a confident and fluent reader.

In June the children will complete a Phonics Screening Check. The phonics screening check is taken individually by all children in Year 1 in England, and is usually taken in June. It is designed to give teachers and parents information on how your child is progressing in phonics.

Literacy: Developing reading comprehension, vocabulary, and sentence writing. We’ll explore stories, non-fiction texts, and poetry, building speaking and listening skills along the way.

Maths: Building strong number sense with addition, subtraction, place value, and simple multiplication and division concepts. We’ll also explore shapes, measurement, and problem-solving to develop logical thinking.
