Year 4
Welcome to Year 4
Year 4 class teachers – Jack Brown and Megan Benham
Welcome to Year 4, we are really looking forward to supporting your children on the next step of their journey at Orchard Fields. We will learn about the Mayans, rainforests, the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Romans throughout the year.
Vision/Values: In Year 4, children will continue to develop their independence and the skills to apply this in a greater range of contexts. They will continue to take pride in their work and will further develop their ability to edit, improve and check work. Alongside academics, pupils will also continue to develop their confidence and social skills, becoming better at resolving disagreements and supporting each other.
Key Expectations
In Maths, we will continue to build both calculation fluency and problem-solving skills through discussion and book work. We particularly focus on times tables to build towards the Times Table Check that all pupils take in year 4 (this is a national check similar in format to Soundcheck on Times Table Rockstars).
In Reading, we will become better at showing evidence for our understanding and making deeper inferences into texts. Discussions and debates are central to children’s understanding of texts. We expect children to read at home every day to develop their skills and love of reading.
In Writing, we expect children to consistently use the grammar and spelling they have practiced in prior years, maintain high standards of joined handwriting and continue to develop their writing in a range of styles.
