Year 2
Welcome to Year 2
Year 2 class teachers – Kelly Giles and Lucy Tustian
Welcome to Year 2! The children will continue to build on their learning from Year 1 while developing new skills and taking on exciting challenges across the curriculum. They will be supported and guided throughout the year by their teachers and Miss Giles, our Key Stage Leader. We look forward to a happy and successful year for all.
Our Vision and Values
In Year 2, the children will develop confidence and independence in their learning. They will be encouraged to persevere when learning becomes challenging, achieve their very best in all that they do, and be aspirational in their goals.
The children will work collaboratively, show kindness and respect to others, and take pride in their learning. Through this, they will continue to grow into confident, motivated, and responsible learners.
Key Expectations

Assessment in Year 2
Year 2 SATs are no longer statutory. At Orchard Fields, they are used informally to support teacher assessment.
Assessments are:
-
Completed in small groups
-
Carried out in a low-pressure classroom environment
-
Used to support overall teacher judgement rather than formal testing
Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) may access adapted or alternative assessments where appropriate.
Teachers use a range of evidence to monitor progress and ensure all children are supported effectively.
