Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
Year 5 teachers – Anna Donajgrodzki and Sujata Lakhani
Year 5 is a fantastic stage in your child’s journey, where they grow in confidence, take on new challenges, and begin preparing for their final year of primary school.
In our classrooms, we promote a strong sense of responsibility and encourage children to take ownership of their learning. We expect pupils to be well-prepared each day, show determination when learning becomes challenging, and present their work neatly and thoughtfully. Being punctual, properly equipped, and ready to engage positively with others is essential.
From creative projects and group work to developing new skills in maths, reading, and writing, every day brings new opportunities to grow.
During Year 5, children will continue to develop key skills in reading, writing, and maths, while also enjoying a broad and engaging curriculum across all subjects. They will begin to prepare for the expectations of Year 6, gradually building their confidence and stamina for more independent learning. We also begin to introduce elements of preparation for the KS2 SATs in a low-pressure way, helping children become familiar with different question types and test-style activities.
We recognise that every child is unique, and we are committed to supporting their individual needs. Our aim is for all children to feel confident, capable, and proud of their achievements. We value strong communication between school and home, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like to discuss anything. We are always happy to help!
