Welcome to our Nursery

Nursery class teachers – Vicki Hudson and Kate Neal

Each term, much of the children's learning is based upon a topic, such as 'Once upon a time' - a focus on traditional tales. Daily activities allow pupils to explore these topics further. There are opportunities for looking at books, sand and water play, role-play, artwork, number games, developing fine motor skills (through resources such as lacing cards, pegboards and playdough), building models, and sensory play.

We have a daily routine, which helps the children to settle and feel secure. Each week, they have a phonics, maths, and P.E. lesson, as well as a topic-based lesson focusing on art, developing an understanding of the world, or music. Our phonics lessons lay the foundation for the future skill of reading.

Pupils attend 'Forest School' regularly; an area of the school grounds set aside for the exploration of wildlife and plant life, where den-making, and balancing equipment made from natural resources, can be enjoyed. Our Nursery garden features a play kitchen and has a range of climbing equipment, to encourage the development of gross motor skills.  There are also bikes and scooters; tyres, guttering and wooden bricks to inspire creative play, and planters for growing flowers or vegetables. A canopy provides shade in the warmer months.

Every day, children are encouraged to grow in their independence and confidence, and to build friendships with their peers, supported by our caring members of staff.
