Welcome to Year 6
Class Teachers – Bernadette Stuart and Tom Halford
This is an exciting and important year as pupils take on new responsibilities, deepen their learning, and prepare for the transition to secondary school.
We have high expectations for all children - encouraging them to take pride and independence in their work, show resilience, show up to school in full school uniform or full PE kit, and always try their best. Pupils are expected to come to school ready to learn, complete homework on time, and demonstrate positive behaviour, respect, and kindness towards others.
Independence, organisation, and a growth mindset are key focuses this year, alongside maintaining a strong partnership between home and school.
This is an important year too, as the children sit their KS2 SATs. This is a week of independent tests (usually in mid-May.) These are marked externally and we get the children’s results back in early July. We will communicate these results with you alongside your child’s end of year report.
The purpose of these tests is to measure the progress the children have made since their time in reception. Secondary schools also use the results of these tests to inform them of how much support the children will need in lessons. We prepare for them throughout the year and sit many practice papers – under test conditions.
We understand that the children may become anxious about the SATs and what they will achieve. We understand this, and as long as the children try their best, then they have done everything they can.
Our classroom doors are always open and we encourage you to come and speak to us if you have any questions or concerns – big or small!
