Year 3
Welcome to Year 3
Year 3 class teachers – Alleia Barnes, Laura Morgan and Laura Gilbert
Welcome to Year 3! We are really looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, curiosity and fun. Our class teachers, Miss Barnes, Miss Morgan and Mrs Gilbert, are excited to work with the children as they grow in confidence, independence and knowledge across the year. We are also very lucky to have the support of our wonderful teaching assistants, Mrs Kibblewhite and Ms Clarke, who help make our classroom a supportive and encouraging place for everyone.
As children begin Key Stage Two, one of our key focuses this year is fostering independence in their learning and daily routines. We will encourage the children to take increasing responsibility for their work, organisation and problem-solving as they grow in confidence.
Our main curriculum topics are Stone Age, Predators, Shang Dynasty, Banbury & Beyond and Ancient Egypt. Children explore a range of exciting history, geography and science topics. They learn about early human life in the Stone Age, the achievements of the Shang Dynasty and Ancient Egypt, and develop their understanding of chronology and how civilisations lived and changed over time. In science and geography, they investigate predators and food chains, as well as studying their local area through the topic Banbury & Beyond, developing map skills and learning how places change.
Key expectations
Children develop their maths and English skills through a wide range of engaging learning experiences. In maths, they build confidence with number through addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, while also learning about fractions, measurement, time, shape and statistics. In English, children strengthen their reading, writing and speaking skills by exploring high-quality texts and writing for a variety of purposes, while developing their grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary.
